Scott Bryte
One of very few builders still making figures entirely from carved wood, body and all.
Pastor Scott Bryte carves in pine and does caricature work as well as figures, including portraits carved to a customer's own face. The collection describes a blog series that followed one of his figures from a paper sketch through to a working custom figure — a rare public record of how a wood figure actually gets built.
His figure Sparky is the largest in the collection at over five feet tall. The head opens at the front so ideas can be put inside it, and it lights up; the back of the head opens fully to reach the mechanics; the hands come off the body and lock on. The body has a rocking clavicle, in the Foy Brown manner, so Sparky can look straight down whether seated or standing.
